Protects PCs from master boot record attacks _free tool
PC security is a must. Because our PC is the only
machine by which we can do a lot of things right from our home. We can
browse the internet, we can watch movies and videos online, we can fix
any complex accounting job, image editing and much more. So, securing
your personal computer is necessary. It manifests out daily workflows
and cooperates with us in many ways. Let’s say, for example, and
nowadays we see a doctor to an engineer is working on their PC just make
their works easier than before.
However, cyber criminals are trying to
infiltrate your PC to destroy or steal the data you have on it. They are
using many malware attacks which are quite troublesome. Master boot
record attack is one of those. So, what is master boot record?
Master Boot Record
Master boot record or MBR the data that
stays in the first sector of any hard disk of a PC. The significant
contribution of MBR is to locate the operating system, and it can boot
itself into the RAM. This is MBR for you. Now let’s talk about MBR
attack.
Cybercriminals have created a virus to initiate an attack on MBR. So, how that virus works?
Well, Master boot record virus is such
malicious thing that can infect the boot sector of MBR of the hard disk.
This virus always spreads through the physical devices or media. Such
as USB drives. However, it can come through the email too.
How to remove it?
It is not so easy to remove the boot
record virus as it can encrypt the boot sector. Sometimes, you will not
be noticing anything when the virus will arrive! There is the only way
to detect the virus is using anti-virus. Run the malware scan, and it
will show the virus. To eliminate the virus, you may need to reformat
the hard drive. Some free tools can protect your PC from master boot
virus.
One of the free tools is MBRFilter. It is
strong enough to ensure PC security. This tool is available for 32-bit
and 64-bit Windows version, and you can find it on GitHub. This tool can
save the master boot record of your PC from a malicious file and
unwanted modification by the virus or ransomware. It works as a system
driver, and it can put the first sector of the disk or sector into a
read-only state.
Finally, I can say that MBRfilter is a very handy tool
which is easy to use and install. PC security is the priority and you
should take preventive measures when some unwanted stuff comes around
harm your device. Your PC is your asset that might include many
sensitive and personal data that you don’t want to lose. So, using such
security tools is crucial to secure your device or PC from outside
threats. Hope the article helps you to know about the Master boot record
attack and its prevention.
Microsoft, Qualcomm's ARM-Powered Windows 10 Laptops Will Arrive in Q4
Highlights
- Currently only x86 processors are able to run Windows 10
- Initially laptops with ARM chipsets will be launched
- Company didn't mention specific timeline last year
Steve Mollenkopf, CEO of Qualcomm, said that Snapdragon 835 processor is expanding into mobile PC designs that run Windows 10 and is scheduled to launch in the fourth quarter, as per a transcript of the earnings call.
As Windows 10 devices currently only run on x86 chipsets from Intel or AMD, these will be the first devices to run Windows 10 that don't have a processor with x86 architecture. Terry Myerson, Executive Vice President of the Windows and Devices Group at Microsoft, confirmed last year that the initial focus would be on laptops but the company has envisioned a vast ecosystem of Windows 10 ARM devices.
"We're thinking about platform that supports small screens, large screens, devices with no screens at all, head-mounted displays, and so what can these device makers build will really be up to them," Myerson said at the time.
Earlier this month, the Redmond-based company said that it is working with Qualcomm and Cavium to bring support for ARM chips to Windows Server OS. The server used in the demo ran on Qualcomm's 10nm Centriq 2400 and Cavium's flagship second generation 64-bit ThunderX2 ARMv8-A server processor- both especially designed ARM-based chips meant for cloud servers.
Samsung Galaxy S8 'Red Tint' Display Issue Will Reportedly Be Fixed by Software Update
Samsung Galaxy S8 'Red Tint' Display Issue Will Reportedly Be Fixed by Software Update
Highlights
- Some users complained that their device's display had red tint
- Company has said that the software fix will resolve the issue
- The smartphone will be released on Friday
While Samsung Galaxy S8's display has been earning the smartphone a great deal of appreciation from reviewers around the world, some South Korean units of the device were reported to have a red tint on their display earlier this week.
Samsung had acknowledged the issue then, but had suggested users can
fix the issues themselves with adjustments within the phone. Now, a
report claims Samsung will roll out an update to fix the issue.
As we mentioned, the South Korean company had tried to downplay the issue by saying that there is no issue with the phone, but now says it roll out the update due to "some dissatisfied customers," as per a report by publication The Korea Herald. "Because there are some complaints about the red-tinted screens, we decided to upgrade the software next week for all Galaxy S8 clients," a Samsung spokesperson was quoted as saying in report.
In an announcement to its service centres, the company was quoted as saying, "There will be an additional update to make colour revisions more minutely at the end of April." Some of the users who got early hands on the device reportedly complained that despite adjusting the red colour to the lowest setting, the tint issue didn't go away.
Interestingly, when the Galaxy S8's red display tint issue popped up earlier this week, it was speculated that the issue could be due to a colour balance problem caused due to use of a "deep red AMOLED to strengthen the red."
As it now appears to be an issue that can be resolved with software update, we will have to wait and see how soon the company pushes out the update. Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ smartphones are set for global release on Friday and will be made available in home country as well.
